The tragedy of wildfires has hit California in a big way, and millions of dollars of medical cannabis are going up in smoke…
Wildfires are a force to be reckoned with, and the current furnace burning out of control across many parts of California shows no signs of abating just yet. So far the zone containing scattered blazes had swollen to an area as wide as 100 miles. At the same time, the flames have left at least 40 people dead and destroyed at least 5,700 properties. Then there’s the devastating damage to the wineries and the cannabis fields.
The northern part of the State, Napa Valley and the Emerald Triangle, produces more cannabis than anywhere else in the US, and that fact is worrying a lot of people. IT’s not only the growers who are concerned about their profits but also patients who are concerned that the wildfire will have a direct affect on their ability to obtain their medicine.
According to SFGate, the fire could result in a huge loss for the cannabis industry in California, as there will be, “likely hundreds of millions of dollars in crop damage and loss.”

It’s hard to tell at this stage how much crop is damaged, and how much more will be before the raging fire is bought under control by firefighters. That said, there are estimates running into billion dollars depending on what is found when the fires are extinguished.
Meanwhile, the director of the California Growers Association Hezekiah Allen, told reporters that, “the fires in Sonoma and Mendocino counties have caused ‘the worst year on record for California’s growers. This is going to leave a deep scar.’”
